So driving to DC is either miserable or really swift… Today was super easy so for an easy drive I rewarded myself with a “Happy Friday Pumpkin Spice Latte”!

#postgrad #aintsobad

Not gonna lie the post grad life hasn’t exactly been what I expected. Moving home had been an adjustment, having absolutely no sort of schedule to my life, and not teaching dance for the first time in 9 years are all things that are taking me time to get use to.

However, there are a lot of really amazing things about moving home.
1. Being with my high school friends.
2. Being close to my crazy big loving family.
3. The time away from my roomies making it even more exciting the next time I see them!
4. MY DOG!
5. Running my trails again!
6. And so many more!!!!

It was strange not starting school especially when 2 of my best friends and roomies are still in York. But I am SO excited for what is ahead. Jobs on jobs on jobs….

REAL WORLD IM HERE!

Last night my roommates and I went to watch “les miserables” in the Collegiate Preforming Arts Center (CPAC)! It was my second time seeing this beautiful movie and I even shed a tear again.

Before seeing the movie I warned my roommate Cait that she was going to cry a river. Little did I know she would end up weeping as we walked back to our apartment!

Thank you Campus Activities Board (CAB) for supplying me with this hilarious memory & for getting such a great movie to watch!

in need of a new pair of shoes.

HELP!!!! I am drowning in cover letters!!!!!

Currently am in the midst of applying for many jobs and writing cover letter after cover letter. The process is starting to become repetitive. It is difficult to make a creative, witty, yet intelligent sounding cover letter after writing so many. I have heard several times, from Mrs. Carroll in Print/Media Writing and even Tina Rudisill and her employees at the AE Unplugged networking event at Marketing Works, to relate cover letters to the company you are writing it for. However, after about your 10th cover letter they all start to sound like mush!

I am trying to remind myself that all of this “boring” or “tedious” work that goes into applying for jobs will one day pay off and I will find the perfect job.

OR

Maybe Marilyn Monroe is right and all I need to do is go out and buy myself a FABULOUS pair of shoes, and then I will be able to get the FABULOUS job I have been searching for and “conquer” the world.

After receiving several texts from my college friends congratulating me for being “famous” for having my picture in the York College Magazine, I finally found mine in the mail today. However, I was not worried as much about my picture as I was about seeing my hard work from my I internship last semester finally published! And to my surprise MY feature story ended up being the COVER STORY! I was jumping up and down with excitement when I found out! The entire magazine was wonderful! I am proud to say I wrote 3 stories and researched some of the “fun facts” found inside. A theme found throughout the magazine is “results matter” and boy is that true! But most importantly York College gives students like me the opportunity to create these results. Without my internship with the Office of Communications at York I would never have had the opportunity to be published in a magazine and to add to my portfolio! THANK YOU YORK COLLEGE!!!!

lists on lists.

After taking a LONG steady break from posting I have been dying to get back. However, for some reason I could not get myself to just sit down and do it!

Here I am in my last semester of my senior year at York College and time is flying by! I can’t believe I have less than 3 months left of being a college student!!! Recently, all I can seem to think about is all the stuff I have to do before graduation. I literally talk to myself saying, “There is just SO much to do in such a short amount of time!!!!” I needed to find a way to calm myself down.

On a rare occurrence this Wednesday, I had NOTHING to do for once. Therefore, I sat down and read Real Simple Magazine. One article shared some great advice for me and probably every college student. As the end of the year is coming instead of looking at all of our work in one huge pile, break them up into small piles.

I have found that making small lists that are more accomplish-able in a short amount of time is much more realistic. And I feel great once I complete a list. Then I move onto another list. It is a great way to make it seem like there is much less work to do. Speaking of lists… even though its break I have gotten through a lot of mine today and blogging was one of them! GO ME!

challenges of being a leader.

As a busy college student juggling school, internship, work and fun, I am proud to say that for the past 2 years I have been the Vice President of the Women’s Club Lacrosse Team.

This is a position I take seriously and act out with pride. My team is a great group of girls that are always there for each other and exuding LAX LOVE! However, over the past few years it has also been difficult balancing the role as leader and friend.

York College has realized this problem and has created several Professionalism series that have focused on this very situation. I have attended many ExCEL leadership events and have found them helpful. However, no matter what you do there are always people who disagree with actions of the team.

Therefore, I have found that the most important part of being a leader is surrounding yourself with e-board members that do not cut you down but bring you up to make the team the best that it can be. Having a support system willing to talk out tough situations in a mature manner is not always found in a college setting. However, I believe that all clubs and organizations should practice this. Practicing this will also help students prepare for the “real world” and our future work places.

This is just one example of how college is truly a learning experience inside and outside of the classroom.
